I can't afford a system right now
Unless you have been in business for less than a year,
you are losing more money now than you would be spending
on a point of sale system. Remember, a point of sale
system pays for itself by reducing operating costs,
improving margins and providing you instant information
about your business - all of which lead to greater
profits. Leasing is an excellent option. A basic system
can be leased for less than $200 per month, far less
than the return on investment you will realize after
implementing your system.
I am too small
There are many issues to consider when determining
whether or not your store is too small to automate.
A few good indicators: Do you generate more than $50,000
per year in gross revenue? Do you spend more than
1 hour per week for ordering? Are you at your store
from open to close? How you will answer these questions
will determine your actual need for a point of sale
system.
I had a system once before. It was expensive,
hard to use, required too much support, and my employees
hated it!
We hear this a lot! However, there are several factors
that should ease your concern in this area. First,
point-of-sale software has come a long way in the
past 7 years. Today's Windows-based packages
are less expensive, easier to use, and more powerful.
Second, many point of sale system installers are not
familiar with retail automation. Their core competency
may be in computers, but not in point of sale systems.
We became the leading direct mail provider in North
America by offering an easy installation procedure,
helpful documentation, and an industry-leading 90
days of toll-free support.
I have a system now, I know it's old, but I don't
want to start over!
We hear this a lot too. We know that it takes a lot
of work to implement a system - entering data, training
your staff, etc. Good news! Most of the older point
of sale programs allow the contents of their databases
to be imported to another program. Specifications
for importing data vary, but most programs will allow
you to import SKUs, descriptions, quantities, and
pricing. Customers and vendor information can usually
be imported as well. DirectPOS offers importing services
starting at $125. To help you with training, we include
a software guide, as well as our 90
days of toll-free support.
I am waiting for computer prices to drop further
Until about a couple of years ago, this was a good
strategy. Now PC prices have stabilized and companies
are using gimmicks to attract buyers. DirectPOS offers
open architecture PCs at an affordable price. Our
PCs offer a powerful platform from which to run your
business. Our solutions are designed to last at least
3-5 years with nothing more than supply purchases
as ongoing costs.
Purchasing a PC from DirectPOS also offers you free
configuration and setup prior to shipping, as well
as one-stop support.
Summary-in general you need to budget 2% of your
annual gross sales for a point of sale system. If
you have $150000 in annual gross sales then spending
$4500 on a point of sale system is a worthwhile investment.
